We moved!!

My girls are helping me pack the kitchen!! So precious.
The girls helped me pack this time!
After a crazy-busy week of packing we have finally moved! It was a struggle to get packed - I got sick, on top of everything else, but my girls helped me pack this time. I don't think they have ever really helped me pack before, and it's such an amazing new experience, another landmark in their break-neck journey to adulthood.

I found all kinds of treasures I hadn't unpacked in at least one move - possibly more. I unpacked them first this time! I literally squealed with delight when I found the box containing my white china tea pot. It turned out Emma's snow globes were in that box too.

Now I'm wading through what we need to keep and what we need to let go of. It makes me feel so good to get all this stuff that I've been meaning to do something with out of the house! It feels good not to just dump it or trash it but to give it away (or sell for $5) to someone who really needs it.
This is my new room, on the day we moved in. At the moment there are bags everywhere and still lots to do but it's starting to feel like home and I am very content. I really love our new place. It's just what we needed.

Cleaning/sorting/purging week 2 LOVE getting this all done finally! I kinda love moving.
We signed the lease last weekend and should get the keys today or tomorrow. We've been switching utilities and forwarding mail... it's really happening! We're moving!!

If I had written out a list of everything that I wanted for this move I think pretty much every one of them would be checked off with this new house. Lower rent, closer to Daniel's office, but still with an extra room that could be a fourth bedroom or office, still in the same school district for Beth's school - I'm pretty amazed. At the same time it hasn't truly sunk in. I know we are moving and I need to get packing but I don't feel it- at all.

Also - it's VBS week for us here. Every night we are packing up and camping out at church for about three hours. It's wonderful and I love it - but I'm Exhausted (with a capital E) and ready for a nice relaxing weekend.

still waiting...

The last time I sat here, writing a post on waiting, I honestly thought there was no way I could be sitting here now, almost a week later, still waiting.
No way.
Couldn't happen.
But here I am.
While we are a little bit closer to having the details of our move nailed down things are by no means as settled as we were hoping they would be.

I'm thinking about a few years ago when I was waiting and I have been remembering how God provided for us when a tree fell on our house. This house we are moving out of was the first house we looked at - everything worked out so easily then. The opposite of this time around, after months of house hunting and multiple applications we are still not sure where we will move.

But God hasn't changed.

I mentioned before that I've been doing a Bible Study on the book of Ruth. We are right at the point of the story where things are starting to turn around for Ruth & Naomi and I have been struck by the same truth - God hadn't changed. She returned home empty and broken, declaring that God had dealt bitterly with her. A few verses later she is rejoicing at the covenant faithful kindness of God - but God hadn't changed. His faithful love towards her was the same in Moab when she was practically alone and when He brought Ruth into the field of Boaz. God was drawing them into his story of redemption from the first moment - God doesn't change. His plans for us are good, he is faithful and kind. Whatever our circumstances.

My kids often remind me of how different this experience has been from our last and I have to remind them - and myself - God hasn't changed. He is providing for us just as much now as he was then. Our situation is completely different this time around but God hasn't changed.

So I pack, clean, trust, repeat and wait to see how God will provide.

These songs have been speaking powerfully to me lately:

First pool photos of the summer

We had our first trip to the pool this week and I have to say it was so much fun to watch my kids in the water and photographing them was just terrific. We went to our friend's pool in the evening and the light was perfect for taking photos. At mid-day the light is very harsh and typically quite uneven so it was nice to get some really good photos for the start of the season.
I was shooting in Aperture priority for most of the time, because I didn't want to think too much... honestly. For action shots this just doesn't work very well, especially when I want a nice frozen-movement shot. I kind of like the blur that shows the movement but I prefer a nice crisp freeze-motion. To get that I should have at least switched to shutter priority or into manual so that I could put that shutter speed up fast.
My 55-200mm zoom lens gets such nice bokeh. It is my favorite lens for out-door shooting.

Eli enjoyed the water for the most part. I'm pretty confident that by the end of the season he'll be a regular fish.
I took so many photos - way too many for a blog post, the Hubs also took a few - like this one!  So if you want to see more click here.
